These US military surplus cans were used to hold ordnance during various military operations. They are known as 81mm Mortar Cans/Crates/Chests or C374MK2 cans. They have a hinged lid. Like all C374MK2 cans, these do NOT have rubber seals.

"Nothing fancy about these cases, they are built to protect what you put in them. With velcro tape on the bottom they are low enough to put in car trunks without sliding around, and they hold a great deal of roadside emergency/SHTF stuff. I now have 4 and look forward to finding more uses for these sturdy cases."
